Welcome to the home of the Druridge Bay 10k Charity Run

The 3rd Druridge Bay 10K Charity Run will take place on the 24th May 2009, 10.30 am start and will be dedicated to the Grace House North East Children’s Hospice Appeal. Our aim is to exceed last years figure £15,000, for which we need your help and support.
Just complete the entry form, returning it to the address as stated, along with your fee. Closing date for postal entries 1st May 2009, limited to the first 1,000 entries received.
On the day entry fee £17.50, subject to availability. This event is not wheelchair accessible.

This event welcomes all standards of applicants across the spectrum, from the elite runner to the slowest walker.
Fancy dress participants are always welcome as we love to see people putting the "fun" into fund raising.
For the last 2 years, the race has had a tremendous spirit and with your help we will achieve the same good will and incredible atmosphere.
We look forward to seeing even more than the 411 entrants who participated in 2008!

The route is a gem of a 10k run starting and finishing at Druridge Bay Country Park.
Surface conditions: Gravel tracks, grass, tarmac and firm sand, along the beautiful Druridge Bay beach.
Druridge Bay Country Park Visitors’ Centre offers café and toilet facilities, with adequate parking close by.
Northumberland College Sports Therapy Clinic has chosen to support the event again this year by providing free sports therapy for all.
Minimum entry age: 13 years on 24th May 2009, all under 16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The short statement below should demonstrate why the Druridge Bay Charity 10K run is supporting this charity in its forth-coming event. The runs in the past have been able to make a difference to other well-known charities and with your help this year we will see the Grace House North East appeal take a further step to achieve its target and enable it to build a much-needed facility.

Grace House North East statement

There are currently 1,000 families in the North East region coping with the most devastating news any parent can hear. Their much-loved child will not live to adulthood. For some, death will come in weeks, for others, it may take years. Whatever time left is precious and a children’s hospice can help make the most of their remaining time.
Kathy Secker, well-known local TV and radio broadcaster and journalist, launched Grace House North East Children’s Hospice Appeal in September 2002. The need for a children’s hospice in the North East has been well known to Kathy because of her involvement with children’s charitable organisations for more than 25 years.
The North East has the lowest number of children’s hospice beds in the country, four available in Teesside and eight in Newcastle. This number clearly does not meet demand and as more children with life-limiting illnesses now survive beyond their first days, or months, demand for extended life care increases. Provision for hospice care is crucial and Grace House will have a catchment area covering the whole of the North East - from the Borders of Scotland to Teesside.
Grace House will offer palliative, respite and end-of-life care for children as well as offering long-term bereavement support to families. We cannot add days to the lives of these children
....but we can help put better quality of life into their days.
